Today in class we learned about google docs. We learned how to share a document with a partner. This could be used in the classroom between students and teacher. I could have the kids look at some websites and send me a paragraph about what they found on the website. It was kind of neat how we didn't have to keep sending the document back and forth to each other. Any changes we made were automatically visible.
We also did another activity where we wrote stories and then edited them. There is a tracking tool that shows the student what changes you made to their document. This would be useful for editing students drafts of a report and sending it back to them. One of my teachers does this in college.
Our group presented on the digital divide today. The digital divide is the idea that some children have access to computers and some don't. We showed a clip from you tube that showed why computers are important in education for children. The clip talked about how being able to use technology will help them get a better job one day. We asked the class what we can do as teachers to help all students have access to computers. Some of the suggestions were to give group assignments, give more than enough time to get a big report done and let them have class time to use the computers and also after school. That's all for today!
